The holiday season is one of my favorite times of the year because we are surrounded by family, friends and many loved ones. This is also a time of year that offers an opportunity to reflect upon our many blessings and accomplishments.
2014 was undoubtedly memorable. I began the year as a County Supervisor representing the more than 600,000 residents of the First District. Together, we celebrated many achievements including: the opening of Haster Basin Recreation Park, the designation of all 34 cities in Orange County as "Purple Heart Cities", and the renaming of the lake at Mile Square Park as "Freedom Lake".
Additionally, I was proud to bring many initiatives to the community that enhanced the well being of our District. With the assistance of hundreds of volunteers we were able to co-host a Health Expo, a Senior Expo, three flu clinics, and a job fair. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who worked with me to make these accomplishments possible.
2014 was also a year of transition, as I was overwhelmingly elected in November to represent California's 34th State Senate District. Following this victory, I was sworn-in on December 1st as your new State Senator. I accepted this office with the humility and honor it deserves and I will work diligently to create a better California.
With 2014 coming to a close, I am moved to see all that was achieved.
As you gather with family and friends this holiday season, please remember how fortunate we are to live in this beautiful state and that I am honored to represent you.
