Senator Janet Nguyen calls on the public to join her in opposition to the City of Sacramento’s effort to Recognize a Delegation from Ho Chi Minh City

(Santa Ana, CA) Senator Janet Nguyen is asking the public to join her at the next meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 of the Sacramento City Council to protest Sacramento’s recognition of a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City. Senator Janet Nguyen vehemently opposes recognizing the delegation due to Vietnam’s decades of human rights violations and oppressive tactics against their citizens. Senator Nguyen further intends to discourage the Sacramento City Council from considering any future partnerships with Cities in Vietnam.

“As someone who fled Vietnam in search of freedom, I am disappointed that the Sacramento City Council is planning to recognize a delegation from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. By doing so, the Sacramento City Council is inadvertently granting the Vietnamese government legitimacy they do not deserve,” said Senator Janet Nguyen.

There were reports swirling online on Sunday that Sacramento Vice Mayor Allen Warren has future intention to consider establishing a Sister City’s relationship between the City of Sacramento and Ho Chi Minh.

“It is critical that the Sacramento City Council hears from us so they can understand why the Vietnamese- American community of California rejects contact with any delegation from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Above all, we need to ensure that the Sacramento City Council does not explore any ‘Friendship or Sister City’ relationship with these delegations in the future,” said Senator Janet Nguyen.

Senator Nguyen is calling on public members who share her concerns to join her at the Sacramento City Council meeting this Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place in the City Council Chambers at Sacramento City all located at 951 I Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Residents who are interested in attending the protest in Sacramento on Tuesday, July 14th will soon be provided with transportation availability detail from Orange County to Sacramento and from San Jose/San Francisco to Sacramento. Residents who are unable to attend the meeting can relay their concerns to the Sacramento City Council by calling the Sacramento City Clerk at (916) 808-5441 or email both Mayor Kevin Johnson at mayor@cityofsacramento.org and Vice Mayor Allen Warren at awarren@cityofsacramento.org.

As news break and farther details on transportation availability for the public is available, Senator Janet Nguyen will continue to provide the community with the information.
